These funds will be used to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire-related hazards. Lance visited the department today to talk about the priorities for the grant funding with the leadership of the three departments. Lance secured more than $1 million in grant funds this year for fire companies across New Jersey's Seventh Congressional District. FEMA has been a great partner to the volunteer fire companies in Hunterdon County tasked with protecting life and property. These federal funds help supplement critical needs like procuring equipment and staff. The fire companies of Quakertown, Clinton and High Bridge are very deserving of this support and it comes at the right time. Calls are up and the demand of these brave volunteers is only increasing. I commend the work of Chief Patkochis, Chief Dorf and Chief Smith. It's no surprise FEMA picked our communities for these merit-based grants, said Lance. Quakertown Chief Bradley Patkochis welcome the crowd saying The AFG grants will save the taxpayers $300,000 and give communities funds that otherwise may not have come. These funds can now be spent on other uses that will help the Fire Department better serve the community. Congressman Lance's office was instrumental in receiving this much needed grant. High Bridge Fire Chief Jeff Smith pointed out the grant will be used to purchase search and research camera. The High Bridge Fire Department is thankful for this grant. There are times when a volunteer fire fighter needs special equipment to help save lives. This grant will allow us to purchase three thermal imaging cameras that will help to search for people and their pets and fire fighters in smoke or heat-filled environments. And High Bridge Mayor Mark Desire added, The people of High Bridge are well served by our volunteer fire fighters. These are our heroes in every sense of the word. They risk their lives for our citizens and we are glad that this FEMA grant was awarded to them, which we believe to be well-deserved," said High Bridge Mayor Mark Desire. "We appreciate Congressman Lance's support for our volunteer emergency responders as he understands their priceless contribution to our community. Clinton Fire Department Chief Walt Dorf said the Clinton Fire Department is excited to receive the grant, making the case for using the funds to better protect the health of the firefighters. Due to concerns of cancer related issues in the fire service The Clinton Fire Department will be utilizing the funds received to install and exhaust system for our vehicles and purchasing equipment to properly clean and dry or gear after an incident. As Chief of the Department I have incorporated a policy for gear cleaning in house for routine maintenance and after any incident where the member may have been exposed to any type of hazardous substance of smoke. In addition The Clinton Fire Department is part of the North Hunterdon Fire Alliance which has Incorporated a on-scene decon policy for our gear after a call. This helps reduce the risks of exposing members to carcinogen that maybe with in the materials of our protective gear. As a member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, the Seventh District lawmaker has voted to increase federal investments for both the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant programs. These programs were created by Congress to help address the significant staffing, equipment, training and health and safety needs of our Nation's First Responders. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
