This week, thanks to the activism of Democrats and the American people, Postmaster General DeJoy announced what may be a temporary pause in operational changes delaying the mail. This is a necessary but insufficient first step in ending the President's election sabotage campaign. This pause only halts a limited number of the Postmaster's changes, does not reverse damage already done and alone is not enough to ensure voters will not be disenfranchised by the President this fall. The Postal Service is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined in the Constitution and essential for providing critical services: delivering prescriptions, Social Security benefits, paychecks, tax returns and absentee ballots to millions of Americans, including in our most remote communities. Yet, the President enabled by his top mega-donor Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is waging a campaign to sabotage the election by manipulating the Postal Service to disenfranchise voters.Across the nation, Postmaster General DeJoy continues to push forward sweeping new operational changes that degrade postal service, delay the mail and threaten to deny the ability of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming elections in a timely fashion. The Postal Service itself has warned that voters, even if they send in their ballots by state deadlines, may be disenfranchised in 46 states and in Washington, D.C. by the Postmaster General's manufactured delays. On Saturday, the House passed Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Maloney's Delivering for America Act, which prohibits the Postal Service from implementing any new changes to operations or level of service it had in place on January 1, 2020. The Postal Service is one of the pillars of our democracy, said Democratic Policy and Communications Committee Chairman Cicilline. The operational changes' Postmaster DeJoy put in place are irresponsible. The House passed the Delivering for America Act last weekend to fully fund and restore those changes.' Senator McConnell needs to come back from his vacation and make this a priority. Our veterans' prescriptions, seniors' Social Security checks, and small businesses' livelihoods are at stake. This is a five alarm fire for our democracy. In the middle of a pandemic, right before America begins to vote, Donald Trump and his hand-picked, campaign mega-donor Postmaster General are still attempting to undermine the integrity of our election by sabotaging the USPS,said Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern. This timing is more than suspicious it's outrageous, it's wrong, and I believe it's unconstitutional. If this president can abuse the power of his office to cheat in an election, then any president after him will be able to get away with the same thing. We cannot and will not let that happen. Mitch McConnell should listen to the American people for once in his life and pass the Delivering For America Act to protect the integrity of our elections. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's unilateral changes to service standards reflect his commitment to the Trump Administration rather than the American people who rely on mail for essentials, said Congressman Langevin. I'm proud to have voted for the Delivering for America Act to protect the post office because Congress cannot be idle as the President undermines a critical service and a pillar our democracy for political gain. This cannot be another important bill that languishes in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's legislative graveyard the Senate must take it up! 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
