The bill, which is based on House legislation that Langevin cosponsored, will further help the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) enforce actions against unlawful robocallers and require that they work to stop one-ring scams; help the Department of Justice bring more prosecutions against criminal robocallers; and help identify and sanction phone companies responsible for the vast majority of unlawful robocalls. S. 151 passed the House by a vote of 417-3. I have heard clearly from constituents that robocalls are simply out of control. It is past time that we take tougher measures to protect consumers and hold the primary drivers of intrusive and disruptive robocalls accountable. The TRACED Act will bring needed relief to the American people. Just this week, I joined seniors at a community event with local cybersecurity experts in Rhode Island's Second Congressional District to share online safety tips for the holiday season. Many in attendance took the opportunity to voice their frustrations and concerns about scam calls they received. In an interconnected world that relies more each day on technology, it is imperative that we act to establish safeguards for landline and cellphone users and send a message to those who use this technology improperly that their actions will not be tolerated.
