This was the first and only hearing on the text of H.R. 1, the House GOP tax plan, and the public debate that we and the American public were denied before the House Republicans jammed their bill through committee and ultimately through both chambers of Congress. Not only were we provided expert testimony on the repercussions the bill will have on the American worker and the obscene tax cuts that corporations and the wealthy will receive from this tax bill, we also heard from every day Americans who described to us how they would be harmed by the tax plan. We heard from a graduate student on how H.R. 1 would make higher education an impossibility for middle class Americans, and a decorated combat veteran, who has devoted his life to helping his fellow vets get hired,” said Larson. “What is most galling about this bill - is that in order to cover the costs of the $1.5 trillion hole they will blow in the deficit, they will institute an immediate $25 billion cut in Medicare next year.
