Today in the Ways and Means Committee Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act, which would restore the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction that was capped by the Republican Tax Law in 2017. The bill was reported favorably out of committee. I am proud to vote today for this legislation that rights one of the many wrongs made in the 2017 Republican Tax Law. 83 percent of the benefits from that law went to the nation's wealthiest 1 percent. At the same time it caused middle-class families in Connecticut's taxes to go up because it capped the State and Local Tax Deduction. On average, Connecticut residents were deducting $19,500 a year in state and local taxes, now they're paying more for a tax cut for the rich.
