My heart breaks for the families of those killed today at the synagogue in Pittsburgh and I'm praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. It is both disheartening and unacceptable how hate is being spread across our country today. Hatred and antisemitism are not American values. I'm reaching out to my Michigan congressional colleagues from both parties so that we can take a concerted, bipartisan stand. This violence must be stopped. We must have protections for all people of this country, including families in places of worship. I'm reaching out to our Jewish community leaders and our Oakland County Sheriff, to ensure safety precautions are in place for the many synagogues throughout my district and to reaffirm my commitment to tackle antisemitism in our midst. Our Detroit region's rich religious diversity is one of our strengths. I will continue to embrace that religious diversity, and keep working to ensure it brings us together and never tears us apart.
