Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) announced the release of over $5,112,131 in funding for The Association of AsianPacific Community Health Organizations. This funding comes as part of an announcement today by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius of $727 million to 143 community health centers across the country to address pressing construction and renovation needs and expand access to quality health care. These funds will create construction and health center jobs in California and across the country, and enable community health centers to provide affordable care to thousands of additional patients. They are the first in a series of awards that will be made available to community health centers under the Affordable Care Act. Community health centers provide critical preventative and primary care services to so many people in this country - serving nearly 19 million patients, many of whom have no health insurance, said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. I am pleased that the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations will be receiving this important funding to continue providing much needed health services to the people of my district. The Capital Development (CD) program grants, administered by HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will support major construction and renovation at 143 community health centers nationwide. This builds on the more than $2 billion investment in community health centers in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
