Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation will award two grants totaling $10.8 Million to fund AC Transit's farebox system replacement project and improving BART's regional real-time transit information at intermodal BART stations. AC Transit will be awarded $7.5 million through the Department of Transportation's 2012 State of Good Repair Program to fund farebox system replacement. Additionally, BART will be awarded $3.1 million through the U. S. Department of Transportation's 2012 Bus Livability Program to fund regional real-time transit information at intermodal BART stations. The project will provide up to 17 additional real time bus and rail departure and arrival information at key intermodal BART stations. I am pleased that both AC Transit and BART have been awarded these important grants which will make critical transportation infrastructure improvements, said Rep. Lee.
