Williams (202) 225-2661 Washington, D.C. Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) issued this statement following the passage of the Clean Energy and Security Act. The consequences of global climate change, disastrous trends of environmental degradation, and our nation's perilous dependence on fossil fuels are being felt in communities here in the United States and around the world, especially the most vulnerable. While I believe that America can, and should do more to address the climate crisis than what is provided for in this bill, the American Clean Energy and Security Act is the critical first step toward achieving our goal of realizing a greener future. This legislation takes concrete steps toward curbing greenhouse gas emissions and will help the United States to engage with the international community to address global climate change. Additionally, it will create millions of high-paying, career-term green jobs that represent a much needed pathway out of poverty for millions of individuals across this country.
