I am excited that several East Bay health organizations were selected for this highly competitive funding which is critical to closing the healthcare gap for low-income youth, said Congresswoman Lee. These grants will allow for improved access to dental and healthcare services for Oakland area youth who have few options for accessible and affordable care. The School-Based Health Centers Capital Program grants are designed to address significant and pressing capital needs to improve delivery and support expansion of services at school-based health centers which will lead to improvements in access to health services for children. Information on the specific grants is provided below: Children's Hospital & Research Center: $500,000 Children's Hospital Oakland plans to use the grant to expand their efforts to stabilize their cost structure, offer specialty services in a setting more convenient to their patients and link their primary care clinic more strongly to their specialists. Finch, Fred Children's Home: $500,000 With the help of this funding the Rising Oaks Wellness Center will provide health, dental and behavior health services to targeted student and Transition Age Youth (TAY) populations in Alameda County. Lifelong Medical Care, INC: $500,000 LifeLong will use the funds to purchase a dental van to be used in their work in the Oakland public schools, specifically for Elmhurst Middle School/Alliance Academy, and neighboring elementary schools.
