Con. Res. 496), expressing the need for humanitarian assistance to the region. The bill urges adequate emergency spending to assist in efforts to help the people of the region, particularly in Grenada, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Bahamas, with assessing damage and providing relief to affected communities.Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne tore through the Caribbean within the span of only 5 weeks. The storms devastated much of the region, killing over one thousand people, leaving thousands without homes, and dealing a major blow to the region's economy. Americans, especially Floridians and Californians, know firsthand the suffering caused by natural disasters such as hurricanes, fires, tornadoes and earthquakes. I introduced this legislation because the U.S., as a world leader, really does need to step up and lend a helping hand.
