Congresswoman Lee will first visit PolyPlus Battery Company, 2424 6th Street, Berkeley CA at 10:30 a.m. PolyPlus a leader in the development of next generation lithium battery chemistry received $4.9 million ARRA funding to research the development of high-energy, non-toxic, environmentally-friendly Lithium batteries that can run on air or seawater. Congresswoman Lee will be made available to the press to discuss the tour during this stop. Congresswoman Lee will then visit the Joint Bio-Energy Institute (JBEI), 5885 Hollis Street, Emeryville, CA. JBEI is a Bay Area partnership led by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and is considered the nation's center of alternative energy research. JBEI has received $7.6 million in federal funding to advance the development of next generation bio-fuels. The tour will conclude at Amyris Biotechnologies, Inc, also located at 5885 Hollis Street, Emeryville, CA. Amyris Biotechnologies, Inc. creates renewable products, focusing on fuels and chemicals. The firm received $24 million in stimulus grants to support its efforts to create renewable fuels and chemicals.
