Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) announced today that three universities in the 9th Congressional District have been selected to receive a total of $3,641,067 in Upward Bound grants. Upward Bound is a federally-funded program designed to identify and provide support services for low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities. Mills College was the recipient of three Upward Bound grants totaling $1,246,235. Holy Names University will receive two grants totaling $573,300, and the University of California, Berkeley, will receive a grant of $686,726. As a long time supporter of the Upward Bound program and advocate for these grants, I am pleased that these universities will be receiving this critical funding, said Congresswoman Lee.
