Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) along with U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan announced the release of over $2 million in Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) grant funding for the city of Oakland. This grant is part of the nearly $8 million allocated tothe State of California. Today's announcementis part of the $1 billion in third roundNeighborhood Stabilization Program funding which is targeting emergency assistance to state and local governments to help reverse the effects of the foreclosure crisis. Local grantees will use this critical funding to work with their communities toreduce blight, bolster neighborhood home values, create jobs, and produce affordable housing. These funds will provide a much needed economic boost the City of Oakland and the 9th Congressional District and will help rebuild and strengthen our blighted neighborhoods, said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. I applaud the Obama Administration for continuing to work to provide funding to much needed programs in ourhardest hit communities. In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever for local governments to work with our federal partners to improve the quality of life for our citizens, said Oakland Mayor Ronald V.
