Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) hailed an announcement by the Obama Administration that the University of California at Berkeley would be receiving over $1.2 million in grants through National Institute of Health (NIH) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grants. The NIH funds biomedical research and research training at more than 3,000 institutions in the fifty states and territories. The over $1.2 million in funding will go towards a variety of projects including: University of California, Berkeley (Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory) - $325,975: to study Non B DNA Structure with Chemical Carcinogens University of California, Berkeley - $185,353: to study the effects of the systemic environment on muscle aging University of California, Berkeley - $175,767: for genetic analysis of somitogenesis in zebrafish University of California, Berkeley (Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory) - $433,276: to study Beamline Automation for structure determination University of California, Berkeley - $ 94,190: for biochemical analyses of Type II DNA Topoisomerases University of California, Berkeley - $283,750: to study response to and signals of caloric restriction and intermittent feeding regimens These funds will help the University of California at Berkeley continue their groundbreaking research and help them and other research institutions across this country remain globally competitive in the sciences, said Congresswoman Barbara Lee. ### Next Article | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
