We could drastically lower greenhouse gas emissions that have put us on a path to a world of widespread food insecurity, worsening public health, and perpetual national security crises. With the Build Back Better Act, we could also make life easier for millions of working families by extending the refundable Child Tax Credit. Lower child care costs, prescription drug costs, and education costs would help Americans everywhere make ends meet. The Build Back Better Act is the best chance we have to improve the quality of life for everyone, and it is incredibly frustrating to have this legislation derailed by one individual, Senator Joe Manchin. While today’s setback is disappointing beyond words, I remain hopeful that we can reach an agreement on many of the policies this bill includes.
