Sánchez (D-CA), a senior Member on the Ways and Means Committee, voted to publicly release the Committee's investigation of the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) Mandatory Audit Program under the prior administration. After the vote, Congresswoman Sánchez issued the following statement: "As a senior member on the Ways and Means Committee, part of my job is safeguarding our tax code and ensuring that tax laws are applied evenly and fairly to all, regardless of wealth or power," said Congresswoman Linda T. Sánchez. "Tonight's decision comes after four years of this Committee's work to review how the IRS enforces compliance with federal tax laws by a president. Our review found that under the prior administration, the program was dormant and failed to address the complexity of the president's situation." Congresswoman Sánchez continued: "Releasing the findings of our investigation, coupled with our proposed legislation to ensure the IRS has the capacity to do its job fairly, will help ensure no one is above the law. I thank Chairman Richard Neal and my colleagues on this Committee for their commitment to ensuring that our tax laws are fair for all across the board — from working families to former presidents."
