https://louise.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/slaughter-announces-more-650000-funding-awards-three-rochester Slaughter Announces More Than $650,000 in Funding Awards for Three Rochester Institutions 2017-12-14 2017 2017-12 Democrat House NY Louise Slaughter S000480 louise.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter (NY-25) announced five federal grant awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities for three Rochester institutions to continue their world-class research. The awards for the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Rochester General Hospital total more than more than $650,600.  Slaughter is co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Arts Caucus, which fights to secure adequate funding for the NEH, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Institute for Museums and Library Services. “I’m proud to announce these major grant awards for the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Rochester General Hospital to continue their important work. They are a testament to the world-class research that’s happening right here in our community. I will continue fighting the president’s efforts to eliminate programs like the National Endowment for the Humanities, which help create jobs and boost our economy while delivering a rate of return that we rarely see in other industries,” said Slaughter. The funding announced today includes : Three awards totaling more than $600,000 for the Rochester Institute of Technology An award for the University of Rochester totaling more than $50,000 An award for Rochester General Hospital totaling more than $5,600 NEH is an independent federal agency created in 1965 and remains one of the largest funders of humanities programs nationwide. Its funding awards are often given to cultural institutions including colleges, universities, and libraries to continue research and preserve access to educational resources. Slaughter opposes President Trump’s budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2018, which would start the clock on the elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities regardless of the fact that they make up less than 0.008 of the federal budget and provide programming in every Congressional district. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
