We are ready and eager to lead the way in meeting the great responsibilities the American people have entrusted to Democratsto invest responsibly to grow the economy, create jobs, and secure our nation. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee and in Congress to pass federal spending bills that provide adequate funding for health, education, child care, infrastructure, and other investments that improve our communities and help New Yorkers and all Americans. I am also committed to using Congress's constitutional power of the purse to provide robust, effective oversight of the Trump Administration and to reject funding that runs counter to the values and interests of hardworking families. The immense responsibility to fund the government, keeping it open and operational, and to spend tax dollars wisely is particularly clear given the looming Trump Shutdown, which will harm American families, businesses, and communities. While Republicans have governed from crisis to crisis of their own making and failed to meet the most basic responsibilities of governing, Democrats will make government work for the people. Lowey will be the first woman in history to chair the powerful House Appropriations Committee. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
