https://lynnjenkins.house.gov/press-releases/jenkins-pompeo-host-special-town-hall-on-gtmo-prisoner-transfer/ Jenkins, Pompeo Host Special Town Hall On GTMO Prisoner Transfer 2015-12-11 2015 2015-12 Republican House KS Lynn Jenkins J000290 lynnjenkins.house.gov     legacy TOPEKA, KS– Today, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) and Congressman Mike Pompeo (KS-04) hosted a special town hall on the President’s plan to transfer prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay detention center to the United States – potentially to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. After the event, Representatives Jenkins and Pompeo released the following statements: “It was great to see and listen to so many folks in attendance today who shared their opposition to the President’s plan,” said Congresswoman Jenkins. “This town hall really showcased the strength and depth of the emotion from Kansans standing against the transferring of dangerous detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Ft. Leavenworth. I urge President Obama to put aside his thoughts of a legacy and instead listen to the priorities of the American people, who firmly reject any attempts to close the prison in Guantanamo Bay. After today, there should only be one path forward for the President: the immediate cessation of any and all attempts to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention center.” “I always appreciate hearing from Kansans, and today, many of us stood together against President Obama’s plan to move the world’s most dangerous terrorists from GTMO to Fort Leavenworth,” said Congressman Pompeo. “This town hall showed the powerful consensus among Kansans statewide: we don’t want terrorists in our backyard. Unfortunately, we have a president who acts like a king and ignores both the law and will of the American people in an effort to fulfill a campaign promise to radical leftists. President Obama needs to stop playing politics and focus on doing what is best for our national security, and that is keeping Guantanamo Bay open and these terrorists out of America." # # # 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
