MacArthur introduced The National 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center Act to support the 9/11 Memorial Foundation and guarantee the sacred site will always be a safe and free place of remembrance open to all. On Saturday, Congressman MacArthur visited the 9/11 memorial at the World Trade Center in New York and spoke about his 9/11 legislation and continued calls to reauthorize the James L. Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. The Zadroga Act would reauthorize an expiring health care program that provides medical monitoring and treatment for 9/11 first responders and reauthorize a victims compensation fund for five years. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, changed our lives forever, said Congressman MacArthur. Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives while thousands of first responders and law enforcement officials answered the call to save fellow Americans. A federal recognition for the 9/11 memorial will solidify its standing and recognize the endurance of the survivors, the bravery of those who risked their lives to save others, and the power of our free nation to overcome evil with good. MacArthur continued, While we pledge to memorialize those we have lost, we must never forget the brave men and women who remain.
