This wing is the Air Force’s highly specialized unit that is often the first to respond to humanitarian disasters, as well as serving a wartime role. It quickly deployed to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands after Hurricane Maria to assist with the recovery efforts. With all these operations happening simultaneously, the unit is currently stretched thin potentially compromising its readiness for wartime activities. MacArthur was joined by Representatives Donald Norcross, Leonard Lance, Chris Smith, Frank Lobiondo, Josh Gottheimer, Albio Sires, Frank Pallone, Bill Pascrell, and Senators Cory Booker, and Bob Menendez in this request. “The airman of the 621 Contingency Response Wing bravely serve our country and always perform their duties when called upon,” said Congressman Tom MacArthur. “However, they are currently responding to multiple simultaneous humanitarian disasters and need our help.
