Mann. “This legislation does not cut spending, does not secure the southern border, and is just more business as usual. I remain committed to reducing and reprioritizing future government spending, securing the southern border, and ending the weaponization of the federal government.” H.R. 5860, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 335-91, will now be sent to the U.S. Senate for further review. On September 29, Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 5525, the Continuing Appropriations and Border Security Enhancement Act, 2024, short-term, stop-gap legislation to fund the government, cut spending, secure the southern border, and maintain Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits. It would have allowed Congress time to responsibly appropriate tax-payer dollars and permanently fund the government. That legislation failed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 198-232. On September 28, Rep. Mann voted yes on H.R. 4367, the Homeland Security Appropriations Act, H.R. 4365, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act,and H.R. 4665, the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act. On September 28, Rep. Mann voted no on H.R. 4368, the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which failed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 191-237. The legislation failed to conduct oversight or address reckless spending in nutrition programs, sought to reduce the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s budget by more than 40%, and proposed to dramatically weaken support for land-grant university research.
