Above all else, I'm thankful we are able to worship God in a free country, and at the church of our choosing. While we too often take this for granted, millions of people around the world are deprived of this basic human right. I continue to keep them in my prayers. I'm thankful for the love of my wife, children, and grandchildren, and every moment I get to spend with them. After faith, my family is my highest priority, and I'm grateful for their continued love and support, despite all the demands in my life.As I work in Congress, I'm thankful for my weekly bipartisan prayer group, and my wife's bipartisanship Bible study and prayer groups. Getting things done in Washington requires having strong relationships, and these bipartisan meetings are important for reaching across the aisle. I'm thankful for all those back home who are praying for my family and me as I work in Congress, and I hope they know how much their prayers mean to me. When I'm on the road, I enjoy visiting communities large and small, and getting to meet and know so many wonderful folks. I'm thankful for the dedication of these men and women in their communities who keep Main Street alive, and their local hospital doors open. While there are some things we can do, like funding rural infrastructure, Washington D.C. will never be the solution to most community problems. I commend the people who continue to find innovative and creative solutions to keep their communities alive and well. I'm grateful that the greatest military in human history protects our country. I am thankful for the men and women who serve in our armed forces, and those who have served, and their families that have sacrificed. And I hope you join me this week with a special prayer of thanks for the memories of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The U.S. Constitution is the greatest governing document ever conceived. The Framers balanced and separated powers to safeguard human rights, liberty, and justice. Thank goodness we live under this guiding document, which protects our citizens and guards against would-be tyrants. I will continue to strive to defend our Constitution so future generations can enjoy the same freedoms you and I do today. I'm thankful for a President who is keeping his promise to appoint judges who will uphold the Constitution and not impose undemocratic decrees on Americans. I'm thankful for a President who has cut taxes to return money to hardworking Americans to whom it belongs, and thankful for a President determined to bring our troops home and end our endless wars in the Middle East. Every time I drive to or through Colby, I think of your motto, The oasis on the Plains. You were an early adopter of the interstate and created a shopping and dining hub to welcome guests on that long stretch of highway. Your community truly is that oasis, and through the years, has continued to be such a great greeting for those entering the western part of our state. Kansans are some of the most decent, hard-working, and honest men and women on earth. Kindness, hospitality, service to others - all characteristics people from Kansas are known to possess. I'm thankful for the privilege to represent the good people of the First District of Kansas in Congress. I'm thankful to get to serve you in pursuit of our shared goals of peace and prosperity.
