The bill ensures that sanctuary states issuing licenses to illegals will face a strict penalty that includes the loss of federal transportation funds. “Sanctuary states like Illinois are gambling with American lives by handing out driver’s licenses and CDLs to illegal aliens,” said Congresswoman Mary Miller. “It’s a dangerous, irresponsible policy that puts innocent Americans in grave danger. My bill will ensure that these states comply or risk losing federal funding.” Specifically, the legislation: Withholds federal transportation funds from states that issue licenses to illegal aliens or fail to share criminal alien information with federal authorities. Targets key funding streams by cutting 50% of allocations from the National Highway Performance Program and the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program for non-compliant states. Clarifies accountability by making states, not the federal government, solely responsible for CDLs issued within their borders. Requires transparency by directing the Secretaries of the Departments of Homeland Security and Transportation to maintain a public compliance database tracking each state.
