| https://mcadams.house.gov/media/press-releases/mcadams-signs-no-budget-no-pay-act | McAdams signs on to “No Budget, No Pay” Act | 2019-01-25 | 2019 | 2019-01 | Democrat | House | UT | Ben McAdams | M001209 | mcadams.house.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C.Congressman Ben McAdams has cosponsored bipartisan legislation, including a bill that would stop congressional pay if Congress fails to pass its budget or spending bills on time. The No Budget, No Pay Act, (H. R. 129) -- introduced by Reps. Jim Cooper, Stephanie Murphy and Vern Buchanan--would prevent House and Senate members from receiving their salary if they miss annual deadlines for budgets and spending bills and members would not be paid retroactively. McAdams also co-sponsored Utah Rep. John Curtis' bill the No Work, No Pay Act of 2019 (H.R. 26) a measure that does not allow for Congressional pay during any government shutdown. Utahns know that if they fail to do their job, they won't get paid. Congress should be no different. This measure would help push bipartisan solutions and avoid government shutdowns that harm Utah families and our economy, said McAdams. As a former mayor who balanced the budget on time every year, I know it can be done. Congress passed a version of the No Budget No Pay Act in 2013. That year, the House and Senate passed individual budgets for the first time in four years. However, the bill was temporary and has since expired. McAdams has deferred his pay for as long as the current shutdown lasts. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
