https://mcadams.house.gov/media/press-releases/mcadams-supports-resolution-block-president-s-improper-spending-action McAdams supports resolution to block President’s improper spending action 2019-02-28 2019 2019-02 Democrat House UT Ben McAdams M001209 mcadams.house.gov     legacy Washington DCCongressman Ben McAdams voted today for a resolution of disapproval on President Trump's plan to go around Congress and spend billions of taxpayer dollars without Congressional approval. The measure H. J. Res 46 received bipartisan support in the House and now goes to the Senate. I support the House resolution to block the President from ignoring the Constitution to spend almost $7 billion without approval from Congress. Border security was funded with overwhelmingly bipartisan backing. Our Constitution separates powers to ensure a democratic process. The President's action sets a dangerous precedent and harms our constitutional checks and balances, said McAdams. McAdams earlier voted with Republicans and Democrats to fund government operations, including the Department of Homeland Security and border protection. The bill passed by a vote of 300-128 on February 14th. McAdams said that all members of Congress begin their service by committing to protect and defend the Constitution. The oath is to put the country and its Constitution above party politics or loyalty to a president. The Constitution gives the power of the purse to Congress, as the representatives of the nation's taxpayers. A letter from 26 former Republican members of Congress sent to Congress this week states that if you allow a president to ignore Congress, it will be not your authority but that of your constituents that is deprived of the protections of true representative government. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
