https://mcadams.house.gov/media/press-releases/mcadams-votes-bipartisan-bill-speed-relief-thousands-migrant-children-us McAdams votes for bipartisan bill to speed relief to thousands of migrant children in U.S. custody 2019-06-27 2019 2019-06 Democrat House UT Ben McAdams M001209 mcadams.house.gov     legacy Washington DCCongressman Ben McAdams voted for a bipartisan bill that provides millions of dollars in emergency aid to address unsafe and unsanitary conditions for thousands of children being held at southern border detention centers and shelters. The measure passed the Senate 84-6 and the President has indicated he will sign it. Children are suffering at the border, and we must act now to stop it. These Central American refugees are living in unacceptable conditions, and they need the funding in this bill for medical care, and additional food and shelter in state-licensed facilities. Once this funding reaches them, we will continue our oversight to hold people accountable for using the funds as intended. Then we move to more medium- and long-term changes to our broken immigration system, said McAdams. McAdams joined numerous moderate Democrats in urging House leadership to quickly vote on and pass the Senate's bipartisan bill. The measure includes $2.8 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services for provision of care in licensed shelters, adding shelter beds in state-licensed facilities, hiring federal field specialists and providing millions for medical care. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
