The bipartisan Insulin Price Reduction Act (H.R. 4906) would result in the list price of the drug falling by more than 75 percent. It was introduced by Republican and Democratic members of the House Diabetes Caucus which includes McAdams. Insulin released by the drug companies in 1996 remains unchanged but its price has increased by 1,300 percent from $21 a vial to $300. Drug manufacturers must act responsibly to make this life-saving drug available to patients, said McAdams. McAdams said that according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as of 2015, 30 million Americans have diabetes a serious disease that can be managed through diet, exercise and the appropriate use of insulin to control blood sugar levels. Medical science successfully advanced from using animal-derived insulin to a synthesized version in 1982, allowing those with the disease to survive and lead normal lives. McAdams said that the Insulin Price Reduction Act would give insulin manufacturers who participate the incentive to have their drugs covered under Medicare and private insurance with no deductible. The legislation is supported by the American Diabetes Association and JDRF. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
