https://mcadams.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=367 McAdams: Court ruling on Dreamers a temporary but crucial win 2020-06-18 2020 2020-06 Democrat House UT Ben McAdams M001209 mcadams.house.gov     legacy Washington DCCongressman Ben McAdams hailed the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that gives hundreds of thousands of young immigrants known as Dreamerspermission to remain here and legally work and pursue their education. The ruling rejects the President's effort to end the legal protections offered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The individuals known as Dreamers are our classmates, our coworkers, our neighbors and members of our congregations. Brought here as young children, this is the only home most of them have ever known. They are working, serving in the military, enrolled in college, and are giving back to the community. The Supreme Court ruling today is welcome news that for now, they will be able to continue their lives, said McAdams. A year ago, McAdams voted for the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019, which includes an earned pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients. It passed the House with bipartisan support, but the legislation has not been taken up in the Senate. Dreamers in Utah who participate in DACA arrived in the U.S. at the average age of 8 years old. In Utah's 4thCongressional District, 7,200 individuals are part of the DACA program. Over the past three years, actions by the administration have threatened to end the DACA program, creating tremendous uncertainty for DACA recipients, their families, their communities, and their employers. McAdams said that DACA recipients in Utah own 2,500 homes and pay $28 million in annual mortgage payments, as well as contribute $138.7 million in federal taxes. This court ruling is an important but temporary reprieve. Now it is up to Congress to work together and pass the reforms to our broken immigration system that will give Dreamers the certainty they deserve and will strengthen families, communities and our economy, said McAdams. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
