https://mcadams.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=423 McAdams prohibits funding in House bill for new explosive nuclear weapons tests 2020-07-06 2020 2020-07 Democrat House UT Ben McAdams M001209 mcadams.house.gov     legacy West Jordan, UtahCongressman Ben McAdams said next year's House spending bill covering the Energy Department's National Nuclear Security Administration will prohibit the use of funds to conduct or make preparations for any explosive nuclear weapons test. McAdams wrote to House leaders, including the chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water, as they meet to consider next year's spending bills. His language is included in House bill text released today, ahead of upcoming committee and House floor consideration. For generations, Utahns have experienced higher rates of cancer and other serious medical conditions due to harmful radiation exposure, leading to thousands of premature deaths. I believe it is imperative that the Energy and Water Subcommittee prohibit additional explosive nuclear testing on U.S. soil and prevent additional harm to our citizens, the letter states. McAdams said that the Trump Administration recently announced plans to resume explosive nuclear weapons tests, despite the ongoing certification of the safety, security and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile. Any plan to resume nuclear weapons tests would again put us downwind' of deadly radioactive fallout, even as the government has still not atoned for the devastating consequences from earlier nuclear weapons tests, said McAdams. I thank Chairwoman Kaptur for this important step, and I will continue to fight until this prohibition is signed into law. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
