| https://mcadams.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=502 | McAdams votes against partisan COVID measure | 2020-10-01 | 2020 | 2020-10 | Democrat | House | UT | Ben McAdams | M001209 | mcadams.house.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C.Congressman Ben McAdams voted today against the Heroes Act (H.R. 8406) which lacks bipartisan buy-in. McAdams calls on leadership from both sides of the aisle to negotiate a deal that can pass and be signed by the President. Today's bill is a step in the right direction but is still weighted down with partisan wish list items, unrelated to the COVID crisis. That is why I am voting no. I am frustrated that the bill before us today is an exercise in futility while we should be focusing our energy on passing bills that will get relief to the millions of struggling Americans during this economic crisis, said McAdams.I call on all sides to come together, put partisanship aside, and present a measure that will get Democratic and Republican votes a smart plan that responds to the ongoing public health and economic emergency facing us. There's a deal to be made. Put partisanship aside and make it, said McAdams. McAdams says there are many provisions in the bill that have bipartisan support and should be the basis of a deal. These include additional support for struggling families and small businesses through an additional round of Economic Impact Payments, Paycheck Protection Program forgivable loans, tax credits to help employers maintain employees on payroll, and support for childcare services. While prioritizing emergency COVID relief for hardworking families, McAdams says we also need to consider our nation's skyrocketing debt. All emergency spending must be targeted to help those in need as they deal with the health and economic effects that the pandemic has on communities, small businesses, and the economy. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
