Lucy McBath is proud to announce two significant federal funding awards in Georgia that will make needed investments in public health and help combat a rise in suicides. The Department of Health and Human Services is announcing a $15,892,144 grant award to the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, Inc., which is headquartered in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District. These funds will be used to strengthen the national public health infrastructure and improve delivery of essential public health services through capacity-building assistance. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Comprehensive Suicide Prevention (CSP) program is also awarding $871,730 per year to the Georgia Department of Public Health. This cooperative agreement will support work to develop a comprehensive approach to prevent suicide and keep families together. “Public health concerns have been at the top of mind for every American over the last three years,” McBath said. “I could not be more proud to announce two significant investments coming to Georgia that will play a major role in delivering essential services to our public health system and keeping our families safe, healthy, and whole.
