McCollum said. "The investments in this bill make Congress more effective by increasing resources to recruit and retain a talented workforce that reflects the diverse tapestry of our nation. It also provides tools to make Congress more efficient by modernizing and updating technology. With these investments, Congress becomes more transparent by ensuring elected representatives and the committees they work on have access to objective data in developing budgets and legislation. This funding bill supports enhanced training and wellness opportunities for the U.S. Capitol Police following the January 6 attack. It also provides financial assistance to expand opportunities for more students of diverse backgrounds to seek internships in Congressional offices. This bill will help Congress better serve all of our constituents." For fiscal year 2022, the bill appropriates a total of $4.802 billion, an increase of $581.9 million, or 13.8 percent over 2021. The legislation: Protects our democracy with funding to make the U.S. Capitol and the Capitol complex more secure. Provides opportunities for enhanced training and wellness support for the Capitol Police, who were attacked on January 6 Strengthens the work of the Legislative Branch in order to recruit and retain a talented and diverse workforce Grows opportunity by increasing funding for internships to support more interns who may not financially be able to take an unpaid position Increases funding for the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world, and the Congressional Research Service, which provides nonpartisan policy and legal analysis to Members of Congress and Congressional committees and provides information the public. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T20:03:51Z
