Only after the White House, a few days ago, intervened in final appropriations negotiations to strip out a directive for the National Academy of Sciences to study and inform the American people and Congress about the environmental impact of sulfide-ore mining on the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Since taking office, the Trump administration has gone to extreme lengths – denying access to a scientific study, ignoring public input, and lying to Congress. Why? They did so in order to help a foreign mining company destroy our precious wilderness. "The science-based environmental review of the mining withdrawal of federal lands adjacent to the BWCA was nearly complete when it was terminated by President Trump. That taxpayer-funded study and its data, findings, and assessments have been kept a secret by the Trump administration. Access to the information that has been collected by this study is being denied to Congress and the American people. Minnesotans should ask themselves: why are President Trump and Republicans in Congress hiding this study from the American people? It is because they are willing to pollute and poison Minnesota's and Canada's waters in exchange for extracting profits. The fix is in.
