The deal will save millions of lives by designating 13 precursors and placing new controls on seven additional compounds tied to fentanyl production. “This is a major win for Americans across the country and for families here in the Sixth District,” Congressman McDowell said. “From day one, President Trump made stopping the flow of fentanyl a top priority. I look forward to continuing my work in Congress to help end this crisis, so no family has to lose a loved one to this poison. ” The announcement follows Director Patel’s recent trip to China, where he met with senior officials to press for action. Patel credited President Donald J. Trump’s meeting with President Xi Jinping for creating the breakthrough that led to the agreement. Since President Trump took office, fentanyl seizures at the southern border have dropped 53%.
