McGarvey. “The Simmons College community is deeply grateful for the generous $750,000 grant from the National Park Services to renovate Historic Stewart Hall. We are also grateful to our Congressman Morgan McGarvey for his tireless advocacy of Louisville’s HBCU,” said Dr. Cosby, President of Simmons College. “Stewart Hall was built exactly 100 years ago in 1924. On the cornerstone of the building is the name of the school’s President at the time of construction, President Charles Parrish, Sr. Dr. Parrish was born enslaved in 1863; Stewart Hall remains as a lasting monument to the courage and determination of the black community in its historic quest for justice and opportunity. Beyond its historic and cultural significance, the renovation project is poised to have a positive impact on the local economy of Louisville.
