We’ve received hundreds of calls from Kentuckians who are deeply concerned about Elon Musk taking a sledgehammer to federal agencies they rely on like the Social Security Administration and VA,” said Rep. McGarvey. “I am taking an ‘all of the above’ approach to reining in Elon Musk’s power grab before more hardworking Kentuckians are harmed.” “I’ll work with anyone to increase efficiency and cut waste – but this is not about efficiency, this is about following rules that protect our sensitive information like Social Security numbers from being leaked and ensuring Elon Musk is not padding his own pockets with government contracts at our expense,” added Rep. McGarvey. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Rep. McGarvey is cosponsoring three pieces of legislation: The Taxpayer Data Protection Act would prohibit unlawful access to the Treasury Department Payment Systems, which handles federal payments such as Social Security checks and tax refunds. The Stop Musk Act would prohibit retaliation against federal workers who stand up to Elon Musk. | 1 | 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z | 2026-04-06T23:42:11Z |
