(R-WV) issued the following statement on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon: Americans must never forget the morning thirteen years ago when we saw the face of evil. The vivid memories from that morning are seared into our brains forever. These memories serve as reminders of both the sense of sadness we felt for the loss of nearly 3,000 innocent people in horrific acts of terror, but also the sense of purpose and unity that emerged in the weeks after the cowardly attacks. While today we must remember and honor the ordinary Americans who died in New York, Washington, and Shanksville, PA, we must not forget that the same threats that brought down those planes and the World Trade Center are still very real today. The threat of radical Islamic terrorism has not gone away. The sacrifices thousands of Americans have made in Afghanistan, Iraq, Benghazi, and elsewhere should serve as a constant reminder of that.
