David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-W.Va.) voted for the Kids First Research Act (HR 2019). The legislation which Rep. McKinley co-sponsored will provide research into pediatric diseases and disorders by eliminating taxpayer funding for the Presidential Election campaigns and conventions. The House passed the bill yesterday. As a parent and grandparent it pains me to hear the stories of kids struggling with diseases, said Rep. McKinley. As a country, we should care more about finding a cure than funding political conventions. This bill is in memory of 10-year-old Gabriella Miller who died of brain cancer in October, said Rep. McKinley. We're simply continuing the mission this courageous little girl began to advocate for more research into diseases and disorders that affect other young children just like her. This legislation will eliminate taxpayer funding for the Republican and Democratic conventions and direct funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to pay for needed pediatric cancer, autism, and Fragile X research. Finding a cure that could save the lives of children should be a national priority, added McKinley. This is a good step in that direction.
