Eastern Washington Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) yesterday evening spoke directly with President Donald J. Trump to urge him and his administration to fully support the wildfire relief needs of communities like Malden and Pine City in Washington. Cathy also sent a letter to White House Congressional Affairs yesterday and hand-delivered it to President Trump along with a packet of photos and stories further showing the heartbreak and devastation in Eastern Washington. Read the letter that Cathy gave to President Trump by clicking here. Last week, Cathy visited Malden and Pine City in Whitman County to see the destruction of the wildfires firsthand. As she said following that visit, It took my breath away to see the devastation in Malden and Pine City today. The city hall, post office, and fire station are all gone. 85 homes and surrounding farmland are destroyed, too. The community church up on the hill still stood despite fire damage on the backside. People had no time to prepare My team and I will continue working to support recovery efforts however we can. Once Governor Inslee makes the official request for federal assistance, as is required, I will work to ensure federal resources are available to help our communities rebuild. Learn more about that visit here. # # # 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
