Leading up to this decision, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) led a letter urging the State Department to expedite its decision on Swileh's pending waiver under Presidential Proclamation 9645 which restricts travel to the United States for foreign nationals from seven countries, including Yemen. In response to the State Department's decision, Congressman McNerney issued the following statement: No mother should be left wondering whether she will be able to see her child again. Shaima Swileh's visa was held up because of the president's travel ban, wasting precious time she could have spent with her terminally ill son during his last days. Although Shaima's visa is moving forward, the president's travel ban which discriminatorily targets individuals based on their religion and country of origin remains. This is a sharp departure from our nation's history of welcoming immigrants, and we must continue to fight back against this administration's divisive policies. # # # Rep.
