In partnership with the North Carolina Department of Veteran Affairs (NCVA), the Winston-Salem Regional Benefit Office, the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Charles George VA Hospital, and the NC Highway Patrol, Congressman Meadows and staff were able to assist more than a hundred Western North Carolina veterans over the course of two days. One homeless veteran whose claims had been repeatedly denied because of his lack of a physical address was awarded retroactive disability on the spot. The amount he will receive will be sufficient to help him get off the streets and find a home. Another veteran who had spent five years fighting for an increase in disability payment was granted significant retroactive payment that day. A Vietnam veteran with heart problems who had been battling with the VA was finally able to speak with someone face to face about his claims, leaving him confident he would soon get his case resolved. It was an honor and a privilege to meet so many men and women who served our country bravely. Seeing that they have access to the proper assistance they need is a top priority of mine, Congressman Mark Meadows said. It is our duty as Americans to support those who served our country selflessly, Meadows added. Seminars were held in Waynesville, Hendersonville, and Lenoir to assist veterans of the 11th district. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
