Our nations counter terrorism policies should be smart, effective and constitutionalTuesday I voted against the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2016. This bill funds our spy agencies to the tune of $71.8 billion with little oversight or benchmarks as to how to measure the effectiveness and success of our money spent and missions conducted in our name around the world. In addition, this legislation has several classified provisions relating to Syria, the use of drones and other practices by our spy agencies which I was briefed on and I could not support. One unclassified provision prevents the closure of Guantanamo Bay Prison Camp, which is counter productive towards our counter terrorism goals. This bill passed the House by a vote of 36458 and now goes to the Senate. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
