More Americans participated in this year's election than ever before, and made their voices heard loud and clear by electing President-elect Joe Biden with a historic margin of victory. The President's unwillingness to accept the results of this election, with no evidence of wrongdoing, is deeply disappointing, although perhaps not surprising. Regardless of the outcome of elections, we as public servants have a responsibility to defend our democratic processes and to respect the wishes of the American people. To the families who call PA-5 home, thank you for putting your faith in me. It is the honor of a lifetime to fight for you in Congress. We have a lot of work ahead of us as we continue to confront COVID-19 and fight for a more equitable and just world. But I'm ready to continue this work. Here's how I spent this most recent week back in the district fighting for you. Celebrated Veterans Day with Media's Virtual Veteran's Day Parade It was an honor to join the brave men and women of our district for Delaware County's 61st annual Veterans Day paradeand the first ever virtual parade. It was a day of gratitude for all of our nation's veterans that have proudly served our country and kept us safe in conflicts and wars around the world. I'd like to specially thank Mayor Bob McMahon and the parade committee for organizing this year's event. Bob has served Media for almost 40 years and has always acted to make sure those who served our country are cared for. Bob is a husband, father, grandfather, and decorated Vietnam War veteran, and I would again like to recognize him for his commitment to service, his family, and our community. I come from a proud family of veterans. My father was just 17 when he joined the United States Marine Corps during World War Two. My sister served our country as well, as did numerous aunts and uncles. They volunteered to serve our country out of a sense of pride, honor, and responsibility to protect our nation and our allies. I couldn't be prouder to come from a family of servicemembers, and their sacrifices paved the way for me to serve in Congress today. Watch the ceremony here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=kM13HuDacGE Col. Karen Lloyd from the Library of Congress joined me to discuss the Veterans History Project. Our nation's veterans deserve more than our gratitude. Their stories, triumphs, challenges, and sacrifices are a part of America's story. We must work to ensure that they, and their families, have the resources they need to thrive. I was proud to join Col. Karen Lloyd, current director of the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress to discuss her work sharing the stories of our nation's veterans. I met with West Philadelphia Consortium, a mental health nonprofit which had provided services to Walter Wallace, Jr. and has sought to forge connections with police, to hear their ideas for reform. I'm looking forward to seeing how this project progresses. Joined Zerlina Maxwell to discuss counting every vote and President Trump's frivolous lawsuits If there were a legal basis for his claims of electoral misconduct, the Trump campaign. wouldn't keep getting thrown out of court. These claims are baseless and a continuation of the outgoing president's playbook: deflect and distract. Mitch McConnell has tried to excuse the President's refusal to concede an election that he clearly lost, by saying that the President as a candidate has the right to contest the election. What McConnell fails to acknowledge is the yawning gulf between having a right and doing the right thing. The President has a sacred obligation to protect and defend our Constitution and laws, and he demeans himself and the office by filing frivolous lawsuits seeking to undermine the clear electoral result. Listen to my interview here: https://twitter.com/ZerlinaShow/status/1324875901574713345 Met with our Congressional Youth Cabinet Our youth cabinet, a group of high school juniors and seniors from across the district interested in government and policy held our second (virtual) meeting of the year. Naturally, conversation centered around the recent election and we had a lively discussion of possible electoral reforms, including ranked choice voting, electoral college reform, public financing of campaigns, and mail in ballots. We also started a conversation about potential service projects. Joined Schoolhouse Senior Center for Coffee and Conversation on the Porch For the past two years I have joined the seniors at Schoolhouse Senior Center in November for a breakfast discussion of current issues. This year, we continued the tradition on a fine fall day by meeting on the porch so we could observe social distance and covid guidelines. Joined Wawa and USO to deliver a taste of home to our troops For the last ten years, Wawa has partnered with the USO to provide care packages for our troops overseas. I was happy to join themand the Wawa goose!to help deliver a small taste of home and recognize the public service and courage of our service members on deployment.
