Menefee (TX-18) is urging Texans to check their voter registration and make sure their addresses are up to date ahead of the October 5 registration deadline for the November 3, 2026, election. Roughly 1.2 million Texans are currently on the voter suspense list, including approximately 300,000 Harris County residents whose addresses could not be verified. Being on the suspense list does not mean a voter has lost their right to vote, but it may mean completing additional paperwork, including a Statement of Residence, when casting a ballot. With the registration deadline approaching, Menefee is encouraging Texans to take a few minutes now to check their status and address any issues before Election Day. “I represent the district of Barbara Jordan and Mickey Leland, and generations of Texans fought hard for the right to vote. We should never take that right for granted,” said Rep. Menefee. “My own grandfather had to pay a poll tax just to cast his ballot. A generation later, his grandson gets to serve in the United States Congress. I carry that history with me every day, and it’s why I want to make sure every eligible Texan knows their rights and is ready to make their voice heard.” The deadline to register to vote or update an address for the November 3 election is October 5, 2026. “It only takes a few minutes to check your registration, so I’m asking Texans to do it now instead of waiting until Election Day,” Rep. Menefee said. “Regardless of how you vote, your voice matters.
