Trump Administration officials themselves acknowledged that the U.S. response was ‘slow.’ After I pressed Administration officials during an Appropriations Committee hearing to increase aid and strengthen rescue support, the Administration is now delivering a total of $36 million in humanitarian assistance. While this remains far below what affected communities need, it is a significant improvement over the Administration’s original response.
