Todays release of the conference report for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act brings us one step closer to providing much-needed relief for hardworking American families at every income level. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will create more jobs here in Michigan and across America, and will eliminate special interest loopholes to bring more jobs back from overseas. Families will see more take-home pay, because taxes will be simpler and fairer across all tax brackets. Specifically, by doubling the standard deduction, Michiganders will save time and money while filing their taxes, and will benefit from higher take-home pay. In particular, I worked with my Ways and Means colleagues to be sure our students will still be able to receive tuition waivers tax-free and can continue to deduct the interest paid on student loans. It is critical our students are able to achieve their dreams and not be overwhelmed by the cost of higher education. Id like to thank Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady for his impressive leadership throughout this process, and for listening to member input so we could ensure the priorities of our constituents were reflected in the final product. BACKGROUND: With this bill, the typical family of four earning the median family income of $73,000 will receive a tax cut of $2,059.
