The agreement comes after a year of delays by House Democrats who opposed the original agreement signed by President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and former Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on November 30, 2018. Congressman Moolenaar supports the USMCA and signed a letter this week urging Speaker Pelosi to put the agreement up for a vote by the end of the year. As of now, no vote has been scheduled, but it may occur next week. Congressman Moolenaar made the following statement on today's deal signing: The USMCA is a tremendous victory for the American people and President Trump. This new trade agreement with our neighbors will benefit Michigan workers and Michigan farmers. We have the best workers in the world and this agreement will help ensure they are competing against the competition on a level playing field, especially in manufacturing. It will also open new markets for our farmersso they sell moreMichigan-grown food to our neighbors.
