That bill would help small businesses access a new round of funding from the Paycheck Protection Program as theyfight tosurviveduring the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, Democrats opted to proceed to debate on a bill that would decriminalize marijuana. Congressman John Moolenaar is a co-sponsor of H.R. 8265 and he voted to bring the bill up forimmediate considerationbecause he understands the importance of helping Michigan small businesses as the country now enters the ninth month of thepandemic. H.R. 8265 would immediately re-open the Paycheck Protection Program for small businesses and allow them to access $138 billion in forgivable loans. The legislationalsoensures funding is specifically availablefor small businesses with fewer than 10 employees. "While state shutdowns hurt locally-owned restaurants and their employees, House Democrats are wasting precious timeinstead of immediately re-opening thePaycheck Protection Program and helping Michigan families," said Congressman Moolenaar. The Paycheck Protection Program has already injected more than$15 billion into Michigan's economy and recent research by Bloomberg News found that PPP funding went to more than 7,000 small businesses in the Fourth District, supporting nearly 94 percent of the small business jobs in the 15-county area. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
